Angeles National Forest Reopens in Time for Memorial Weekend

Exciting news out here today!

For the first times since the 2009 Station fire a large part of the Angeles National Forest is opening back up to the public! the  U.S. Forest service announced Friday. 

That's About 46,000 acres of Forest For hiking, camping and picnics.

The station fire started just around the corner here 5 years ago. Two fire fighters were killed. Several civilians injured and about 18 homes destroyed.

It burned for nearly a month and displaced thousands of residents during that time.  That includes the animals as well.

We spoke with Nathan Judy from the US fire service and he's stoked that Forest is re opening just in time for the holiday weekend.

He says Fire safety also very important weekend.  To only start fires in designated metal rings at campgrounds.

Several trails near the Angeles Forest highway are still closed. 

The closed area include Lower Gabrielino Trail, Barley Flats Trail, Colby Trail, Ken Burton Trail, Millard Water Fall User Trail, Santa Clara Divide Road, Messenger Flats Campground, Lighting Point Campground and Big Buck Campground.

    A casino piano tuner in Atlantic City is fighting the state's attempt to seize his late parents' house as part of a redevelopment project connected to the closing Revel Hotel Casino. Charlie Birnbaum says the house in the shadow of the failed casino was his father's livelihood. He says he is attached to the home, even though his mother was killed there in 1998.

    Joan Rivers was reportedly rushed to a hospital in New York City Thursday morning after she stopped breathing during a throat surgery.  The TV host and comedian was apparently undergoing the procedure in a clinic when she stopped breathing.
