New Jersey man admits to 24-hour crime spree

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A central New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a 24-hour crime spree that involved the shooting of a cab driver and several armed robberies.

Federal prosecutors say 23-year-old Quam Wilson of Neptune pleaded guilty Monday to robbery and weapons charges. He also admitted committing other robberies, which will be considered when he's sentenced Sept. 3.

Wilson's crime spree in November 2012 began when he shot and robbed a taxi driver in Asbury Park, then robbed a gas station attendant in neighboring Ocean Township. A few hours later, Wilson went to several area banks and tried to withdraw money from the driver's account.

Prosecutors say the crime spree also involved robberies at a series of Monmouth County businesses, including a taxi stand and a convenience store.

For decades, making some quick cash was the main drive behind so many who took the ride down the parkway to Atlantic City. But with so much to choose from nowadays, it looks like Atlantic City is in a lot of trouble.
