Hit and run victim's body in morgue for 2 months

Posted: Updated:
A hit and run driver kills two people in Detroit. Tonight, two months later, one victim's body is still in the morgue. Her loved ones are trying to raise money to have the mother of two cremated.

Fox 2's Erika Erickson reports on why the process is taking so long. Click on the video player to watch.

Marcus Hutson is the man police say is responsible for killing Kathy Handy, 44, and Wayne Sanders, 55, in a hit and run on Detroit's west side back in March. He's scheduled to be sentenced next week. But, family members of Handy say they're just learning of her death.

"We didn't even know she was hit by a car, we didn't even know anything," says Handy's sister in Florida. She says the family was just informed about the death a week ago.

She thinks that's because there was an error with her sister's last name. It was incorrectly listed as "Lewis." She's now trying to work with her two sisters in Michigan to try and sort things out. The family says they don't have enough money to cremate their sister so they created a GoFundMe account hoping people will help. Click HERE to donate to the fund

Hudson is expected to be sentenced next week for failure to stop an an accident causing death, a five year felony.
