MCSO detention officer assaulted by home invasion suspect

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - A Maricopa County Sheriff's detention officer is recovering after being assaulted by an inmate Sunday.

The officer was working at the Lower Buckeye Jail when Arryck Blanton, a home invasion suspect, assaulted the officer while being walked back to his cell.

Blanton was tased and subdued by another officer who responded to the assault. Sheriff's officials charged with him aggravated assault and placed him on a bread and water program.

The officer was taken to a local hospital where they determined he suffered a broken nose.

Cumberbatch only spoke during the brief hearing to say he understood the charge. His attorney said they wouldn't comment out of respect for the police officer's family.
