Marine 'understanding' of prom dismissal

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. -

A Carroll County family will never forget what was supposed to be a picture perfect prom night.

United States Marine Robert Attison, 21, is home for a two week visit after a recent tour in Afghanistan.

His little sister, Amanda, asked him to escort her to the Central High School prom but was turned down by school officials.

"They said no because I was not her date and you have to be preregistered with the school, and also the dates have to be under 21 because they're going inside the prom, I would not be going inside the prom I would just be escorting my sister on senior walk but they said I couldn't do that because I'm not a senior at the school” said Attison.

Attison graduated from Central High and defended his alma mater.

“I really don't want them given a bad name because people have been saying how disappointed they are and things in them and that's not something I want put on Central High School not coming from me,” said Attison.

Carroll County school district officials wouldn’t go on camera, but tell FOX 5 it all came down to miscommunication.

The school said they would have made an exception for the siblings based on their circumstances.

Whether he was walking her or not, Attinson said that he is grateful he was home on his sister’s big night.

Everyone hates long lines at security checkpoints and the TSA knows it. Now the TSA is sponsoring a contest to encourage anyone with new ideas about how to make the airport security lines go faster. Often for air travelers, the security checkpoint experience is the worst part of their trip. That's why the TSA turned to the crowdsourcing site Innocentive asking for ideas pledging a total of $15,000 in prize money, with at least one $5,000 award.
