Detroit restaurant owner fed up with illegal dumping

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - A Detroit restaurant owner says he wants to run a good, clean business but it's becoming increasingly difficult because of illegal dumping.

Click on the video player to watch Randy Wimbley's interview with the frustrated business owner.

Alvaro Padilla, manager of Taqeria El Nacimiento, has had to look at the piles of furniture, trash bags, and who knows what else dumped near his business for the last year. The junk is piling up in an alley behind a vacant house on the 2000 block of Honora. He says there's only a fence and a few feet separating the business from the growing heap of trash that marks one of southwest Detroit's unofficial dumping grounds.

Alvaro cleaned up most of the trash in the alley and put it out on the curb.

"I've had issues dumping it myself taking it to city dump," he told Fox 2. "They say they can't take certain kind of materials but this is materials that's in our alley. I'm trying to keep our city clean and they're giving us a hard time."

City of Detroit spokesman John Roach says that should not have happened and we got word from the mayor's office that the city will be out to clean up the mess in the coming week. Stay with Fox 2 and myfoxdetroit.com for updates.
