Artwork, equipment stolen from Detroit teacher's car

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - Tens of thousands of dollars of art technology was stolen from a Detroit art teacher, but she says the thief also took something more important that you can't put a price tag on.

Natasha Beste has brought art to countless classrooms around the city for the past seven years.

She and about 200 of her students have been using the latest technology to create animated artwork. Many of her students attend Clippert Academy on Detroit's southwest side.

Beste says she ran inside a building Tuesday afternoon and, although she was inside for just a matter of minutes, her car was broken into and all of that technology was stolen.

"I had four different stations, so that means four different iPods, four different iPads," she says.

But also in her bags - her students' artwork that she says is worth more than anything.

Police are looking for a silver Chevy Blazer seen on nearby surveillance video. They also have the tracking information from the iPads.

"We don't want to get anyone in trouble, even. It's not even about the money, nothing like that. It's just my students' work. I want my students' work back. They need it," Beste says.

The students' artwork was set to be displayed online and in the classroom in June.

'Get on Up' and James Brown's Harlem legacy

    Friday, August 1 2014 5:55 PM EDT2014-08-01 21:55:13 GMT
"Get on Up" is in theaters now. The film chronicles the career of James Brown, who had a special connection to Harlem and New York. Billy Mitchell is the in-house historian at the historic Apollo Theater. He says the Apollo was a second home to Brown, as it was here where he became an international superstar who appealed to all. But Brown's NYC legacy stretches even further.
