Woman Speaks Out About Her Viral Abortion Video

Posted: Updated:
Cherry Hill, New Jersey (My9NJ) - A viral video out of New Jersey is causing uproar after 25 year-old abortion counselor, Emily Letts, from Cherry Hill recorded and uploaded herself undergoing a surgical abortion procedure.

The YouTube video has over 500,000 views and Letts says she chose to be candid with this procedure in hopes of using it as a teaching tool for female patients.

Letts works at the Cherry Hill Women’s Center, which is where she had her abortion. She said she choose to undergo a surgical procedure where the patient is awake and local anesthetic is used after she had trouble finding any video of one being performed online in order to dispel the myths about the experience.

Some people are outraged by the video like Greg Quinlan of the NJ Family Policy Council. He said that “for someone to film this is barbaric. This woman is a former actress, and I wonder if this isn’t some kind of staged commercial for the woman’s center at which she is employed. We do not see the horrible result of her taking a human life…”

Letts spoke out about her decision to make the video and how she’s feeling now that it’s out and gained so much attention.

“I never said it was all about me, I said that this was my experience and I’m sharing this experience. That’s something that a lot of people are misunderstanding, as a counselor I speak this vocabulary, I do not speak for everyone. I’ve seen the grief, I’ve seen the loss, I’ve seen the tears, I’ve seen the sweats,” she explained.

Letts went on to clarify how she would explain this video to her kids if she chooses to have them in the future.

“I would sit them around the camp fire and be like ladies and gentleman of the court, here’s what abortion is if you ever find yourself pregnant. Let’s talk about birth control, let’s talk about sexual education, let’s talk about the three choices if you have an unplanned pregnancy: abortion, adoption and birth. Three choices, all of them equally good, I do not judge you for any one that you do, just come to me and I will hug you,” she explained.

Many people seem to be upset that Letts actually celebrated after the procedure was done, while it’s believed that so many women find it to be a traumatic experience.

“I did celebrate it because I felt relief after it. The majority of people who have abortions do feel relief after, that is the most common, and yet so many women feel like they’ve done something wrong, they feel guilty, they feel like they cannot tell anyone, they’re shamed into silence, I do not believe that is correct,” Letts said.

She also explained that the father of her fetus was not involved in her decision to have an abortion.

“It is my body, if I cared to term that child that would be my child and I would take care of it and I would be an amazing mother if I so decided to have a child, that time is not right now. He is not aware of it and I do not think that men have the right to say yes or no to what a woman wants to do with her reproductive system,” Letts asserted.

To be clear, the 25 year-old says that she is “pro-choice” not necessarily “pro-abortion”.

“The film celebrates MY abortion, it celebrates the fact that we have access to safe, legal abortions and a woman has a right to choose, that’s all that is, it’s my experience,” Letts concluded.

StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
