The kidnapping of nearly 300 girls in Nigeria happened three weeks ago but is only now generating worldwide attention and condemnation. Muslim leaders in various countries have criticized Abubakar Shekau, the head of the terrorist group Boko Haram, for using Islamic teachings to justify his threat to sell the girls in to slavery.

The U.S. government is sending a team of technical experts, including fewer than 10 military troops, to to Nigeria. Britain and France are also sending teams of experts.

Even before the kidnapping, the U.S. government had labeled Shekau a global terrorist and offered up to a $7 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

The Reverend Jesse Jackson met with the Nigerian community in Chicago on Wednesday and contacted the State Department. He is calling on the world to get involved.

Reports have surfaced that Islamic terrorists killed as many as 300 people when they attacked a town in a remote area of Nigeria. That town is in the same region as the boarding school where the girls were kidnapped.
