Woman hiking along "The Arizona Trail" to bring awareness and raise funds

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (KSAZ) - 817 miles is a long way to walk, so why is Sirena Dufault doing it?

"I am doing it to raise awareness of the trial itself and to raise twenty thousand dollars for the Arizona trail association to help maintain promote and protect the trail," said Sirena Dufault.

The trail was finished in 2011. Sirena worked as a volunteer to build the trail. Now she wants everyone to know about it.

"I am the only person hiking the entire way I have people joining me for parts highlighting the best sections of the Arizona trail," she said.

Sirena started her walk at the Mexican border in March; she is hiking the whole thing, and she believes she will get to Utah on may 31st.

"you can hike it bike it or ride a horse on it and many trail heads you can access it all over the state," she said.

Wherever you are, Sirena says the scenery is spectacular.

"In the 460 miles I have come I have seen low desert to pine and even aspen at higher elevations," said Dufault.

After showing us some of the trail today, Sirena stops by "that brewery" in Pine where they brew Arizona Trail Ale.

The perfect place to rest up before getting back on the trail.
