Tire smashes bus windshield on Route 17

NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) - One person was seriously injured when a tire smashed through the windshield of a bus in northern New Jersey.

It happened during the Monday morning commute in Upper Saddle River.

The tire came off a car in the northbound lanes and flew into the southbound lanes before hitting the Pine Hill Trailways bus. It created a large hole in the window directly in front of the bus driver.

The commuter bus was headed to New York City.  One person was reportedly flown to a hospital by a helicopter and some other passengers were taken to a hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known.

The bus was moved to the side of the road near the tire.  Police were also on the opposite side of Route 17 with the vehicle that lost the tire.

All 10 of the students below were injured.
