Teen considered 'serial sex offender and rapist,' 18 victims

Posted: Updated:
An 18-year-old high school student was re-arrested for allegedly assaulting 18 girls. He faces a total of 29 charges.

Tyler Kost's accusers say he sexually assaulted them and threatened to kill them or anyone else they involved.

The high school senior was first arrested on Monday, facing charges for allegedly sexually assaulting 13 girls.

He's back in jail, now facing 25 charges after being accused of assaulting an additional five teenage girls.

Kost was back in court at 10 a.m. Friday and denied bond. He will remain in custody.

Sheriff Paul Babeu called Kost a "serial sex offender and rapist" during a press conference on Friday. He says Kost was charismatic and that the victims trusted him.

Deputies arrested Kost for a second time Thursday, after investigators say more victims came forward, bringing the total now to 18.

Babeu says they first heard the allegations from a student who came to the sheriff's office saying there were potentially five victims.

Deputies went on to arrest the Poston Butte High School senior Monday after 13 girls reported he sexually assaulted and abused them.

According to Babeu, the assaults have been going on for three years. The most recent reportedly happening from February 2014 to the present; five incidents and three victims.

"Tyler Kost would assault these young victims in his bedroom, in their bedroom, and in the desert," said Babe.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, a judge in the case knew Kost threatened to kill his victims.

Still that judge made it so Kost could be released only a $10,000 bond.

"Actually threatened their lives said that he would kill them in text messages that encouraged them to kill themselves," said Babeu.

In some cases, the victims were also allegedly blackmailed.

After Kost's initial arrest investigators say five more victims came forward.

Babeu says Kost threatened and harassed victims so much that two fled the state and one attempted suicide.

Authorities released two probable cause statements that read:

"He told her he knew where she lived. Tyler threatened to tell private things about her to everyone including her parents and the police. He threatened to 'destroy' her vehicle and had threatened to shoot her and all the other girls that had rejected his sexual advances..."

"Tyler is smart, manipulative and a smooth talker. He is also obsessive and controlling. Tyler believes everyone else is wrong. That is how he is able to victimize so many people."

On Thursday afternoon, deputies arrested Kost again.

This time the Pinal County Sheriffs are requesting a "no bond" status.

Kost was banned from his high school campus following his arrest.

He faces a total of 29 counts: seven counts of sexual conduct with a minor (dangerous crime against children), three counts of sexual abuse (dangerous crime against children), seven counts of sexual assault, seven counts of sexual conduct with a minor and one count of sexual abuse, in addition to the original two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor he received during his first arrest.

Babeu says the investigation is ongoing and more charges will likely be filed.
