Two arrested following exchange of gunfire with Robbins police

ROBBINS, Ill. (FOX 32 News) - Two people were arrested after shots were fired at police following a pursuit in Robbins Friday morning.

At about 3:30 a.m. Friday, police were called to a report of shots fired in the 13400 block of Central Park, but found no one there, a statement from Robbins police said.

About an hour later at 4:37 a.m., officers patrolling the area saw “two male suspects with what appeared to be guns in their hands” run toward a red Chevrolet SUV stopped at the corner of Central Park and Lincoln, the statement said.

When the officer started to approach the vehicle, shots were fired at him. He took cover and returned fire as the suspects got into the SUV and drove away, the statement said.

After a short chase, the vehicle stopped in the 13600 block of Monticello and the pair ran off, according to police. Officers say the suspects ran into the woods near 137th Street. One was caught in the 13800 block of Lawndale after a short pursuit; the other turned himself in at the police station about 5:15 a.m., saying “he heard the police were looking for him.”

No one was injured, and no charges had been filed as of late Friday afternoon. Police had extra patrols in the area and at nearby schools throughout the day.
