Carlos Will Do Anything to Finish College - Even Wash Windows

Posted: Updated:
When I first heard about an undocumented student who was paying his way through college by washing windshields at supermarket parking lots, I had to reach out.  I was already pretty impressed because any student paying their way through school without loans is quite a feat.  When I spoke to Carlos, he blew me away, he is bright, articulate and passionate, all things that I admire.

As I delved deeper I understood clear as day where Carlos gets his drive.  He shared with me that prior to entering UCLA his mother and father had lost their jobs.  He saw their struggle and instead of giving up it motivated him.  His parents also refuse to give up, they too work odd jobs to make ends meet.   When I complimented Carlos on his drive, he was humble and told me that there are many other students just like him, who are doing everything in their power to achieve their dreams.  I guess that is why they are called dreamers.  Carlos shared that his long-term goal is to become an immigration attorney, he wants to help others who are just like him.  The more we talked, the more it became clear that Carlos will achieve success.

On a day like today, May Day, when thousands come out of the shadows to march for the opportunity to become legalized Americans, it is appropriate to highlight someone like Carlos who as he puts it feels as American as everyone else.  The only home he has ever known has been the US and it is the only place he wants to be.

A community activist said he received the new video but never had any intention of releasing it to the media.

Six people were indicted Wednesday in an international ring that managed to take over more than 1,000 StubHub users' accounts and fraudulently buy tickets to such prime events as Jay-Z and Elton John concerts, a New York Yankees-Boston Red Sox game and Broadway shows like "The Book of Mormon," the Manhattan district attorney said. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the thieves would then resell the tickets and split up the proceeds.
