NYPD: suspects who tried to kidnap girls in Queens arrested

MYFOXNY.COM -

Police in Queens have arrested two teenagers suspected of trying to kidnap four girls on two separate incidents just minutes apart on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.

Authorities charged Joshua Wright, 17, and Andrew Ghulam, 16, both of Queens, with two counts each of unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a weapon, and harassment, the NYPD said.

The men were in a dark-green SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee with New York plates, police said.

In the first incident, an 11-year-old girl said she noticed the SUV following her near 111 Avenue and 208 Street in Jamaica at about 4 p.m., police said. A masked man in the passenger's seat got out and tried to talk to her, but she ran away, police said.

A few minutes later, possibly the same SUV approached a 10-year-old girl and two 11-year-old girls near 113th Avenue and 196th Street, police said. The girls said a masked man, this time with a gun, got out of the car. The girls ran and hid behind a parked vehicle as the SUV circled around before driving away, police said.

If you have any information about these cases, contact the Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477) or www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting a message to 274637 and entering TIP577.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

A Delta Air Lines flight from La Guardia Airport to West Palm Beach, Florida, was diverted to Jacksonville because of a dispute between passengers over a reclining seat. Delta reportedly says the flight was diverted Monday night when a woman got into an argument with a passenger behind her when the woman was trying to recline her seat while the other passenger was trying to sleep on the tray table.

New York City subway riders are getting back service on the G train between Brooklyn and Queens. The return of service comes as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority reopens a tunnel Tuesday that was heavily damaged by Superstorm Sandy. The Greenpoint tunnel has been closed for five weeks for repairs. Shuttle buses were provided between G stops in Queens and Brooklyn during that time.
