Students walking attacked near EMU

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - Two students at Eastern Michigan University were beaten and robbed as they walked to their off-campus apartment earlier this week. Authorities are still seeking four suspects.

Police say the victims had stopped in Eagles Market on Ballard Street around 1:30 a.m Tuesday. They say the suspects tried to steal liquor from the two men.

Police say when the students started screaming for someone to call the police the four suspects took off.

The university alerted students via email Tuesday.

This attack is the most recent attack near the campus. Earlier this year, a student was robbed and pistol whipped. Last year, two people were sexually assaulted and football player Demarius Reed was murdered. His murder was the second in less than two years, coming months after that of Julia Niswender.

Since, security has been increased around the area of the school. Some students tell FOX 2's Erika Erickson they feel safer, while others they still feel uneasy about the apparent increase in crime.
