Man killed in front of wife in robbery gone wrong

DETROIT (WJBK) - A husband was killed on Detroit's west side when an armed robbery took a violent turn.

Hattie Jackson, the victim's wife, tells FOX 2's Andrea Isom a man approached her and her husband with a gun and demanded money.

"I'm telling him, 'We don't have [any] money. Please, we don't have [any] money.' And as I'm doing this, I'm waving for all the neighbors to hurry up; I'm screaming. They come running but when the gun starts, gunshots, of course people are going to stop and go back two steps," says Jackson.

The man fired shots, striking Jones, and also fired shots at Jackson but missed. Thenthe perpetratorr ran off. He did not get any money.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Schaefer Highway and Joy Road.

    One of the tubes of the Lincoln Tunnel was closed for nearly four hours after a chain-reaction accident involving a New York-bound jitney bus and two other vehicles. Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman says three people were reported injured in the accident in the center tube at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
