Investigators Arrest 6 Men Charged With Child Exploitation

Posted: Updated:
Investigators announced Friday the arrest of six men charged in an area wide case of child exploitation. Authorities say some of the suspects are not only accused of viewing child porn on the Internet but actually meeting victims for sex and sharing images of them online.

"The Internet continues to provide child predators and child pornographers with access to minor children who cannot appreciate the tremendous physical and mental dangers they face," said U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger.

At the center of local case is 44-year-old Matt Kratz. When police searched computers and other devices at the Collegeville townhome where he lived, they found over half a million images of child pornography.

"From that we were able to identify five other minors with whom he had been involved," stated Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.

Court papers also say Kraft had sex with five victims, including a 14-year-old wheelchair bound boy.

He took the boy to a bathroom at the Oxford Valley Mall in Bucks County. Then allegedly engaged in sex and took pictures of the boy.

Authorities say the whole case began when the parents of a 14-year-old Limerick boy found pornographic images on their son's computer.

"They had discovered inappropriate online communications between their son and several adult males," Memeger said.

Authorities say parents must monitor their kid's activities online.

"Track their behaviors and to educate their kids on the potential dangers of the internet," advises Immigration Customs Enforcement William Walker.

One of the suspects took his own life earlier this month. Another suspect is charged with reckless endangerment because he failed to tell one of his victims he was HIV positive.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
