PHOENIX (KSAZ) - One suspect is dead and another is on the loose after two men allegedly tried to rob two armored car guards at a bank near 7th Street and Glendale on Friday morning.

Phoenix police Sgt. Steve Martos says around 9:30 a.m., the armored vehicle employees were changing out a money box at an ATM when two suspects approached them. One of the employees shot one of the suspects and the other suspect ran.

Martos says the suspect who was shot was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Officers are searching for the second suspect who police say is likely armed with a black rifle.  He was described as a black male in his 20s, wearing a gray shirt and baggy pants.

Both guards are okay.

Madison Traditional Academy at 9th street and Maryland was on lock down during the search.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
