Oakland Co. dedicates day to American Idol competitor

FARMINGTON, Mich. (WJBK) - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has declared Wednesday, April 23 "Jena Irene Asciutto Day in Oakland County" on behalf of the American Idol contestant from Farmington Hills, Mich.

"We're all excited for you. You make us all proud, and everybody back home is rooting for you," says Patterson.

Jena Irene, 17, is a senior at North Farmington High School. Students there tell FOX 2's Maurielle Lue they have known she was talented for years.

She is part of the Top 6 on the show.

You can watch American Idol on FOX 2 Wednesday and Thursday nights.

    Two snow leopard cubs born at the Bronx Zoo in the spring are now on display in the Himalayan Highlands exhibit with their mother, the Wildlife Conservation Society announced. The male cubs were born May 6 to first-time parents, the WCS said. The Bronx Zoo participates in a cooperative breeding program with other zoos around the country to prevent inbreeding and make sure zoo animals are genetically viable.
