Self Defense Training

Posted: Updated:

April is Sexual Violence Awareness month and according to statistics 1 out of 2 women have experienced some sort of sexual assault and 1 of 5 men have as well. Krav Maga offers practical self defense moves for real life situations and many locations are offering free classes this month.

Instructor Miriam Schimmel says the first thing to do to stay safe is, "awareness, always be alert and know your surroundings so you don't become a victim in the first place."

If you do get attacked, "you want to move fast and turn the tables on the attacker. Commit to defending yourself and also attacking back.  Practical self defense moves in Krav Maga includes explosive, repetitive moves which target your attackers weak spots."

Sandra Endo joined us from a self-defense class where the goal is protecting oneself against sexual assault.
