Special Needs Student Asked To Play In Pep Rally

Posted: Updated:

WAXAHACHIE, TX – After fighting to be one of the gang, a teenager with Down syndrome was included in his senior year pep rally. His smile will put you in a good mood.

Dane Porter's uncle Jimmie Hackworth posted video of Dane at the rally on our Facebook page. We first told you about Dane last fall when he felt excluded, along with three other special needs students were left off the school shirt that included the names of all the other seniors.

When Todd Porter went looking for his son name, he couldn't find it. He quickly realized that Dane was excluded.

The thought of his son missing out on this special moment left Todd in tears.

"My son will never know the joy of being a father. He can't legally marry. And he can't go to college. This graduation is a big deal to me and his mother," Porter spoke, barely keeping it together.

School officials say that the four special needs seniors were inadvertently left off the T-shirt and offered Dane this moment in the spotlight.
