11-Year-Old Boy Shot In North Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA -

An 11-year-old boy who was riding his bike was struck by a bullet on Monday night.

Police say the child was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Fox 29's Sabina Kuriakose has the live report.

Family members say 11-year-old Sameed Jenkins will soon be heading home from Saint Christopher's Hospital, as police investigate two crime scenes to find out who hurt this little boy.

One neighbor heard the gunfire, followed by more coming from just down the street.

"I heard a lot of banging, shooting hollering, and people started running, scattering because we heard it from down this way first, and then that way down there," the neighbor said.

Police believe two separate shootings could be related. Officials say a description of a silver car seen at both scenes matches.

"We have a 33-year-old male, who was shot two times stomach and leg, he was transported to Temple. He is in critical condition," Chief Inspector Scott Small said, "We are not sure at this time, but due to close proximity and time and distance and description of vehicle we have to look into possibly these are related."

Authorities believe young Sameed was an innocent bystander, and the bullet that struck him meant for someone else. Neighbors are sickened by what they saw and heard.

"What went through my mind was it's horrible. I don't know what world is coming to, but it's horrible," a neighbor said.

At this time, Sameed is still in the hospital. Police are hoping nearby surveillance footage can help them solve this crime.
