NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

People who visited the US Airways Twitter account on Monday were subjected to a very graphic image of a nude woman on her back with a toy airplane inserted into her vagina.

The airline tweeted the photo to a customer who was complaining about their service. US Airways said in the tweet, "We welcome feedback, Elle. If your travel is complete, you can detail here for review and follow up."

The tweet was reportedly in the airlines Twitter feed for about an hour.

The image was eventually removed but not before it was retweeted more than 1,000 times.

In a follow-up post the airline said: "We apologize for an inappropriate image recently shared as a link in one of our responses. We've removed teh tweet and are investigating."
