In this commentary, Mr. Leone talks about the mayor's chronic tardiness.

Mayor Bill de Blasio sat down with the New York Times to review his first 100 days in office. One topic of discussion was de Blasio's chronic tardiness.

The mayor seemingly doesn't think that he has a problem as he declared that punctuality is overrated and he issued this bizarre quote that left many scratching their heads: "I don't think punctuality should be treated as a false idol; I think it's the ideal state of affairs…but the most important thing is to get it right."

Good Day New York hosted a discussion about punctuality with a leading human resources executive and a leading psychologist.

My take is that chronic lateness is a sign of poor leadership from an elected official who works for the taxpayers.

It demonstrates a complete lack of respect and is a display of arrogance which says that you are more important than those who are kept waiting. City workers get the message that lateness will be tolerated, city school children learn that it is ok to be tardy and taxpayers can see that you lack proper management skills.

This is not what we should expect from our leaders. New York deserves better, and Bill de Blasio needs to take this issue seriously and improve his on-time performance.
