Brooklyn woman receives letters sent in 1969

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Susan Heifetz recently received a birthday card 45 years late.

"'Love and kisses, Mama Molly and Daddy Sam,' which is what she always called herself so to me this is incredible," Susan says, reading from the card. Her parents passed away more than 10 ago, so when she got the card dated June 1969 with its sealed with a kiss last week she was in disbelief.

"I'm calm now telling you about it, but trust me, it was dripping down." She says.

The letter showed up a week ago in the mailbox of Susan's old apartment on East 12th Street and Avenue R in Brooklyn. When the new tenant, Dmitri Alexeev, noticed the post mark from 1969, he thought it could be important and decided to reach out.

Susan thinks it's a sign. She is moving to Las Vegas later this year, but has been hesitant to leave Brooklyn, where she's spent her enter life.

"They find me 45 years later, this validates it, I should move forward and I'm going to move forward," she says.

But the story doesn't stop there. In the days that followed, two more letters to Susan from 1969 surfaced at the local post office. One was a birthday card from her older brother and the other was a letter from an ex-boyfriend who was stationed in Vietnam. His name is Sgt. Mark Wolf.

If Sgt. Wolf is still living, Susan would love to hear from him.

And while there's been no explanation as to where all three letters were the last 45 years, she says she feels blessed to have gotten them now.

"It's all good, it's a happy thing," she says.

But, if you can believe it, there's something else this 4-year-old is even more excited about: Times Square is going gold. The chairman of the Times Square Advertising Coalition announced the crossroads of the world is going to light up in gold to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.
