Woman reports assault by Detroit cab driver

DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) - A young woman says she was attacked by a cab driver in Detroit. She showed Fox 2 her swollen lip she says she received after the cabbie refused to give her change and punched her in the face.

Aryn Smith says she caught the cab to get home after hanging out at the 1701 Cigar Bar in Detroit. She says she gave the driver $50 for a $10 fare and was waiting for change when he punched her in the face. She got out with a bloody lip and ran to a gas station to call police. Aryn claims the cabbie sped off with her cash and her cell phone. She says she doesn't know why the man punched her. Police say if her story checks out, the driver could be on the hook for simple assault and larceny.

We tried to reach Checker Cab for comment, the supervisor was not able to provide any information.
