Teacher duct tapes girl's ankles to chair

Posted: Updated:
MONROE, Mich. (WJBK) - Officials at Jefferson High School in Monroe, Mich. are investigating after a band teacher is said to have duct-taped a student's ankles to a chair to correct her posture.

The teacher, Brian Sullivan, is on paid leave pending the investigation.

Some fellow students tell FOX 2's Andrea Isom the teacher just did it as a joke and did not mean anything cruel by it.

"[The student] wasn't upset. She just kind of sat there and was like, 'Okay,' and just dealt with it. It was another student that actually told and had a problem with it," says Andrew Poppenhager, a fellow band student. He says she stayed taped to the chair for about ten minutes at the end of class.

FOX 2 talked with the parent of the student who was uncomfortable with what happened that day in class. The parent did not want to go on camera and is waiting for the administration to finish the investigation before speaking out.

Students say they hope the investigation is settled in the teacher's favor by April 9, when the band class has a scheduled trip to Florida to perform at Disney World.
