BELLEAIR SHORE (FOX 13) -

It's been nearly two years since Major League Baseball superstar Ryan Howard began building his home along Belleair Shore.

Still to this day, it remains a work in progress.

LINK: See how it looked in November

It's one of the most ambitious private home projects in Bay Area history -- a lavish 17,000-square-foot, multi-million-dollar mansion compete with a pool, lazy river, and bowling alley.

It easily rivals -- if not exceeds -- Derek Jeter's mansion on Davis Islands.

On Thursday, at least a dozen construction workers were completing finishing touches on the home. A steady stream of onlookers gathered in front on Gulf Boulevard, as well as behind on the beach.

All of them wanted to know who was building it.

It's a move that makes sense for Howard, who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies. The team's spring training facilities are just a short drive away in Clearwater.

Step through the doors of Hope's Land of Candy in Island Park, Long Island and you''ll be taking a trip back in time. There's no WIFI but they do have a Victrola piano. And then there's the candy.. lots and lots of it.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
