NFL to penalize players for dunking over goal posts

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -- The NFL is reminding its athletes they play football. Not basketball.

The 'No Fun League' is putting an end to dunking the ball over the goal posts as part of a touchdown celebration.

On Tuesday, NFL head of officiating Dean Blandino said the league will now penalize players who slam the ball over the post.

The league has a rule that says the football cannot be used as a prop. Blandino said on The Dan Patrick Show dunking had been "grandfathered in" to be acceptable. But now, it will be a 15-yard penalty.
