CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A Loyola University Chicago student was hit in the head with a handgun during a robbery Monday night near the North Side Rogers Park campus.

The student was approached by two people in the 1200 block of West Albion Avenue about 8 p.m. and they stole the victim's wallet, according to an alert sent out Wednesday by Tom Murray, director of campus safety.

During the robbery, the student was hit over the head with a handgun and is "currently recovering," according to the alert.

The incident was not reported to campus safety until Wednesday, according to the alert. Chicago Police are also investigating.

The university is advising students to walk or jog with a friend, stay alert to their surroundings, and not listen to earphones while walking alone.

Anyone with information should call 911.
