LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) -

Have you reached the saturation point yet on the wall-to-wall cable news coverage of the missing plane?

It's gotten so bad that you could hear this conversation between one of the anchors and an intern we'll call Dano.

"Dano, we are running out of experts to talk to keep this story alive. We are getting good ratings but if we don't freshen this up, viewers may turn over to Public TV for relief."

"Great news boss. I've found a person who was on Flight 370 ten years ago and is willing to offer his theory on what happened. I know it's a long time ago but they were on the very same plane."

"Fantastic. Book'em Dano."

There are two groups of folks out there on this one. Those who are captivated by the "mystery" and those who are crying "Uncle already!"

This turns out to be a living example of what happens when you have a twenty-four-seven news cycle.  You get very little "news" and a ton of speculation none of which can be confirmed until the plane is found.

Uncle Walter must be flipping in his grave. You can bet if there were still only three TV networks they would not be constantly on the air, filling it with what passes as news. You had one know-it-all commenting on the flight simulator in one of the pilot's home. He concluded he must have been training "others" to use it with hopes of taking over the plane. But then another came on and suggested the pilot was just passionate about his work as most fly-boys are and the whole thing was innocent.

Pray tell how that advances the public's knowledge of this tragic event other than to just fill the hole to keep folks glued to their sets? It's gotten so bad they are retelling the story of other planes that have disappeared and trying to link those to this which may be a stretch?

Some critics might argue this has all the signs of being profit-driven with no sense of journalistic responsibility. Some would argue the proper thing to do is say, we don't know where the plane is and when we have factual information we'll be the first to share it.

But since they have not done that, you have a world- threatening revolt involving Russia and the United States being shoved to the side even though it impacts every citizens life, in favor of cable advancing it's own agenda to play to the grandstands on the Flight of 370.
