Butt Enhancement Procedures On The Rise

Posted: Updated:
Paramus, New Jersey (MY9NJ) - Some people are taking the idea of having the perfect body to the extreme and are literally dying from botched butt implant surgeries.

Police say that 22 year-old Tamara Blaine died after being injected in the behind with silicone by Tamira Mobley of Wood-Ridge, New Jersey.

In fact, big butts have gotten so popular that there were close to 10,000 enhancement procedures done just last year. However, due to the high cost of this procedure, more and more people are turning to illegal black market injections.

Shaundrel Hunter of Orange, New Jersey is a mother who works as a tax accountant. She opted to have a Brazilian Butt-Lift because she felt so self-conscious about her flat behind that in all the pictures she took, she made sure to only show her front.

“Guys would make a comment like, ‘oh you’re nice, but you have no butt you know’,” Hunter recalls.

So she decided to change all of that and take initiative to boost up her bum. Now, after the procedure, Hunter proudly shows off her new profile in pictures.

“My life has changed, ya know, I get a little bit more attention but it’s just like, ‘Oh Shaun’ and I’m like ‘Yeah hi’, ‘Oh you’re thick’ and I’m like, ‘Yes I am!’” She said.

Plastic Surgeon Michael Gartner is one of the first doctors in New Jersey who performed butt enhancement procedures and he discussed the two ways to get a bigger butt. Fat grafting is done for the Brazilian Bitt-Lift, where the surgeon conducts liposuction on the stomach or lower back and then injects that fat into the butt. Or the other way is through an implant.

“Buttock implants just don’t reshape you, they just make your buttock fuller, you can’t put that on the sides, if you’re deficient on the bottom, it doesn’t fill out the bottom. Actually the implant mostly stays in the upper to mid-section of the buttock,” he explained.

Butt implants are also very different than breast implants. While breast implants are more like a gel and meant to be soft, the butt implants are rock hard. Gartner says this is because the butt is one of the strongest muscles in the body and meant to be hard to sit on.

The Hess triangle is a tiny piece of private property in Greenwich Village. Manhattan historian Joyce Gold explained the origins of the property: After World War I, New York City seized a beautiful residence and tore it down so it could extend Seventh Avenue and the west side subway below it. The city left the building's owner only a tiny scrap of property so small it requested he donate the triangle to make way for a sidewalk. The man refused, took the city to court and won.
