SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. -

An ex-wife seeking thousands of dollars in back child support got some unexpected help when Pinal County Sheriff's Deputies paid the father a visit.

Deputies had to chase Patrick Maloney down using a golf cart to arrest him when he fled onto a golf course.

The ex-wife said that she wrote a letter to the Sheriff's office with a possible location where Maloney lived.

"This has been going on since my daughter was 5 years old, and she is now 16... he was telling everyone that he was going to get his taxes back, and he was going to Boston and he wasn't going to pay," said Fisher.

Deputies say he owed close to $25,000 in child support and had a warrant for not paying.

They went to his house Monday morning and found him smoking a cigarette, he saw them and ran inside.

Maloney then scaled a fence ending up on the Johnson Ranch Golf Course.

The pursuing deputies ran to the course's pro shop and enlisted the help of nearby golfers. They saw him running past the 18th hole.

"I just kind of asked them what they were up to and they said there was a man on the golf cart that they were looking for. They told me around what hole he was on, and I walked them out, and got them in a golf cart,I showed them in the direction to go get what they were looking for," said Mike Butler.

Maloney was caught out of breath nearby; he was booked into the Pinal County Jail for the warrant and for fleeing from authorities.

His ex-wife never expected to see results so quickly.

"I cannot be more pleased with them getting him and how fast they got him. I didn't think it was a big deal because it hasn't been before," said Fisher.

Maloney is currently being held on a $10,000 cash only bond.
