Church offers tattoos to members as lesson in acceptance

MOUNT DORA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Pastor Zack Zehnder from The Cross Mount Dora is changing the way his church members show their faith.

During a recent sermon about acceptance, he offered to pick up the tab for any church member who wanted to get the church logo permanently inked.

"I said it flippantly, not thinking anyone would really take me up on it," responded Zehnder when asked about how it all started.

So far at least seven church members including realtor Holly Stratton have taken him up on the offer.

"It's a great way to show your faith," says Stratton who got the church logo in blue and green inked on her right shoulder.  "It's also a great way to start a conversation about faith."

And that's exactly what Pastor Zach had in mind when he nonchalantly made the offer.

"Every tattoo has a story. The landscape of faith has struggled to keep up with the times.  So if we can create a way to start a conversation, it doesn't get better than that," says Zehnder.

By the time Bill Gold's Tattoo Shop in Eustis closes for the night, at least 12 church members from The Cross Mount. Dora will have inked their faith with the church logo, all with their own personal story to tell.
