Massive dirt pile in family's front yard after water main fixed

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -

A Detroit woman is worried for her family's safety after crews make a mess of her yard fixing a water main break.

The break happened in December and the water department came to the home in January. The leak was fixed but a heaping pile of dirt was left in the family's front yard.

The dirt pile is still there, two months later.

The homeowner, Rosalind Williams, says the pile looked like an igloo when it was covered in snow.

The lawn is also still covered in ice, and Williams' pregnant daughter says she fell outside. She tells FOX 2's Erika Erickson she was rushed to the hospital in premature labor. Doctors were able to stop it but the mom-to-be is scared to go back outside.

They say even taking out the garbage is becoming a challenge.

FOX 2 contacted the water department Friday afternoon. The property was marked a high priority hazard, and a supervisor and four crews came to the home to clean up the mess.
