Drexel Student Death From Bacterial Meningitis

Posted: Updated:

The Philadelphia Medical Examiner's Office has confirmed that a Drexel student died of bacterial meningitis.

The University is taking extra precautions to make sure students who may have come in contact with the student are safe

The university says Stephanie Ross, a sophomore, was found at her sorority house, Phi Mu (Beta Tau), by a housemate.

She was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center a short time later.

The cause of death has not been determined, but the University is treating it as a suspected case of meningitis.

Some students are having a hard time dealing with the tragic news.

A Drexel student said, "One of our classmates today had to almost skip our presentation to help her friend out and to make sure everyone who was friends with her is ok. You never really hear about people dying from meningitis on campus."

As a precaution, the student health center is handing out antibiotics to anyone who may have had direct contact with Stephanie.

Any students who feel they may have symptoms of meningitis are being encouraged to call the student health center right away.
