`CombatHate` app fights cyberbullying, abuse

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A new smartphone app called ‘CombatHate' allows young people to report cyberbullying and abuse.

Fifteen-year-old Camille Paddock said that when her hair fell out in the 4th grade, she was nearly bullied to death by classmates.

"They called me a freak. Hairless cat! They threatened me physically and told me to just go and kill myself...they were filled with discrimination and hate about my disease," said Paddock.

However, now there's help with ‘CombatHate.'

The new app allows anyone to anonymously report bullying, terrorism and hate, for free.

"We want young people to look at this app in some detail. Meaning, we want to let them understand the difference between a hate crime, a hate incident and bullying, and let them understand the consequences," said Rabbi Abraham Cooper.

Rabbi Cooper and the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which is the Los Angeles based group behind the app, said that there are nearly 25,000 websites that promote hate.

The app ‘CombatHate' is available for use on Android phones and the iPhone.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
