ALSIP, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Police are warning of a series of thefts in south suburban Alsip in which all the tires and wheels are stolen from a parked car.

Between Feb. 5-28, three such thefts and two attempted thefts occurred during midday hours in large business parking lots, according to Alsip police.

One of the thefts and one of the attempted thefts happened in a parking lot in the 12200 block of Central Avenue, police said.

Someone saw the suspect attempting to steal tires from a vehicle in that parking lot, but at the time thought he was repairing a tire, police said.

The witness described the suspect as a black man 20-30 wearing a knit hat with a red-and-white checkered pattern. He drove off in a small white four-door sedan with a blue logo on the passenger side.

Police advise residents to park in a high-traffic areas near surveillance cameras and invest in locking lug nuts.
