NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Eighty percent of people do not get enough sleep, according to health experts including Dr. David Volpi of the EOS Sleep Center.

The sleep specialist who treats people suffering from sleep apnea and snoring suggests everyone take a 15-minute nap, daily.

It's an important piece of health advice on National Nap Day.

“There are so many restorative things that happen. We need to rest at nighttime to regenerate all that energy," said Dr. Volpi.

Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep per night, adds Dr. Volpi.

"The bedroom should be for sleeping and other things. No electronic devices before bed; read a book or do something relaxing," said Dr. Volpi.

Tips for better sleep:

Turn off electronics
Do not exercise before bedtime
No food or drinks before bedtime
Room temperature should be cool

If you're taking a power nap, here are some tips to follow:
Don't nap longer then 25 or 30 minutes
Turn off electronics
Have caffeine before your nap
Sleep on a soft bed
Spray a light mist over your pillow and sheets help put your mind at east; use essential oils like lavender and acacia

    More than 300 people are expected to hop aboard their unicycles to ride across New York City for the 2014 Unicycle Festival. The three-day long festival begins Friday with a 13-mile ride across Brooklyn. The main event takes place on Governors Island from 12 pm-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
