Local woman's friends use web to help her fight cancer

ATLANTA, Ga. -

Nikki Phillips of Johns Creek has been dealt a difficult hand the last few years.

She lost her husband unexpectedly from a massive heart attack; the money from his life insurance policy was embezzled. After that, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She thought she beat it, only to learn last month that it was back, and had spread.

"Through the experience of losing my husband, and my first battle with cancer, and now this one, what I've learned is, you just have to keep moving forward and you have to continue to have faith," said Nikki.

It helps to have faith though, when you have friends like hers. They call themselves "bootcamp buddies". The group of women met at the gym and take bootcamp classes together.

They turned to the fundraising website Gofundme.com -- you simply set up a profile, detail who you are raising money for and why and watch as donations start coming in.

So far, they've raised more than $33,000 dollars for Nikki's mounting medical expenses.

"I really don't know that I can put it in words what they have done for me all of my friends and girlfriends that have stepped up my family and I am just completely blessed."

You've probably heard of a match-making service that helps people find their soul mates. But you may not know that there's a nonprofit in Atlanta that offers a similar service....for people to find....the perfect pet.
