CTA reminds riders Ventra will soon be the only way to pay

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Get ready for a major change in how you pay for your morning commute if you ride the CTA. Transit officials say Ventra is close to being the sole way to pay.

Four out of five people are already using the new fare system. The CTA wants to let the "hold-outs" a heads up and encourage them to start using Ventra.

Frustrated with Ventra's problematic rollout, some CTA riders wanted to wait for the transit authority to work out the kinks.

When news surfaced in February that the new payment system would take full effect beginning in March, more riders took on Ventra to get used to it while they still had an alternate way to pay if there were more problems.

Many people who use the CTA to get to work are hoping for an issue-free commute when Ventra is the only option, since they are so dependent on the service. They told FOX 32 News that they are hoping things will go smoothly.

When the CTA does fully phase out the old payment system, magnetic stripe cards will no longer be accepted on buses and trains.
