Fire drops season opener to Chivas USA 3-2

CARSON,Calif.(Sunday, March 9, 2014) – The Chicago Fire (0-1-0, 0 points) fell 3-2 toChivas USA (1-0-0, 3 points) Sunday afternoon at the StubHub Center in Carson,Calif. in the Fire's 2014 season opener. After Chivas USA scored two goals inthree minutes early in the second half, the Men in Red mounted a furiouscomeback as Benji Joya scored with his first touch of the match and QuincyAmarikwa equalized with a right-footed shot from distance, but Bobby Burlingheaded home the game-winner for Chivas USA in the waning minutes of the match.

TheFire next head to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Portland Timbers atProvidence Park on Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. CT (My50/TWCSC Wisconsin/LaLey).

The Men in Red will host 2013 MLS Supporters' Shield winners NewYork Red Bulls for Opening Day at Toyota Park, presented by Giordano's ChicagoPizza, on Sunday, March 23 at 2:00 p.m. CT.     Authorities on Long Island have arrested a suspect in two cold case murders dating to the 1990s. John Bittrolff, a married father of two, is the lead suspect in the deaths of two prostitutes whose bodies were found within months of each other in late 1993 and early 1994, authorities said. Police arrested the 48-year-old, who was arraigned at the district court in Central Islip.
