Dozens of people are trying to put their lives back together after a raging apartment fire in Detroit. While police look for the arsonist involved, the victims got help from the community Saturday.

Fox 2 talked to some of the victims recovering after the fire at the Jason Manor Apartments. Robert Ford suffered burns on his hands. He also injured his knee and hip in the fall. All he has left now are the clothes on his back. Volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul are working to help him and others involved.

"These families were running out of a burning building at 3 in the morning, they were left with nothing," Michelle St. Pierre told Fox 2. "Imagine forgetting your wallet so your ID, your prescriptions, your glasses,  whatever it might be. We are starting from the very basic level to see what they might need and meet those needs."

Every fire victim who came to St. Vincent de Paul also got a $100 gift card. It can be used at any of the organization's 12 locations to buy what the blaze so quickly took away. Everything from towels to clothing.

"I think it's amazing they are really reaching out to help the fire victims," said Lorean Bell. "Especially at a time like this with the stress and what they're suffering."

Donations have been piling up at St. Vincent de Paul since Wednesday, but they could always use more. There are so many people who are now homeless and now have nothing.

"I can't even imagine starting your life a new," added St. Pierre. "We want to do anything at St. Vincent de Paul to help them. No act of charity is unknown to us, whatever the needs are, we are here."

Going off to college is an exciting time for the entire family, especially for the upcoming freshman. But with technology, parents can be in touch all the time. What's too much and what's just enough? Freshman move-in day seems to be harder on the parents than the students at Stony Brook University.
