RIVERSIDE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

An Uptown man was arrested in west suburban Riverside Thursday for allegedly driving drunk through five red lights.

Michael C. Velazquez, 21, of the 1600 block of West Wilson Avenue, was charged with two counts of DUI, five counts of disobeying a traffic control device and other traffic citations, Riverside police said in a release.

About 2:25 a.m., Velazquez allegedly drove past a Riverside police officer in a marked squad car that was stopped at a red light at Harlem Avenue and Burlington Street, Riverside police said in a release.

The officer tried to pull him over, but Velasquez allegedly ran four more red lights on Harlem Avenue before pulling to the driveway of a friend's home in the 300 block of Olmsted Road, the release said.

Velazquez was not cooperative and began to fight with the officers, who had to physically restrain him on the ground in order to take him into custody, police claim.

Tests showed he had a blood alcohol level of .153, the release said.
