'Knockout' attacker breaks victim's jaw in Manhattan

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Cops are searching for a thug responsible for a so-called knockout attack on the Bowery early Sunday.

The attacker approached a 23-year-old man from behind, punched him in the face, and then ran away, the NYPD said. The attack happened at about 2:25 a.m. on March 2, 2014, in front of 227 Bowery in Lower Manhattan.

The blow knocked out the victim, Kyle Rogers, who woke up in Bellevue Hospital with a broken jaw, police said. His jaw has been wire shut and he has stitches above his eye and under his chin.

The NYPD released security camera video of the attack. The suspect was wearing a jacket with the No. 3 on it.

Rogers and his father believe he was a victim of a so-called knockout game. Often the attacker has an accomplice who take a photo or a video of the attack to post online for bragging rights.

Rogers said he is angry and that he wants these kids to know that what they are doing is not a game, according to Fox 5's Sharon Crowley.

Detectives do not have any suspects.

If you have any information about the attack, contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477) or www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
