Eat With: The Next Big Culinary Trend You Won’t Find In Restaurants

The next big culinary trend is here, but you won't find it in a restaurant instead as FOX 29's Mike Jerrick explains, you need to look no further than your own home or maybe a stranger's.

It's the first time Anabella Ciliberto has met any of these new faces coming into her apartment. By the looks of it...you would never know.

These strangers are all after a good meal and good company with people they've never met.

"At the beginning it was strange for me but it was a good venue to try new things and experiment," Ciliberto said.

Anabella is a personal chef taking part in a new food trend that's sweeping New York City and other parts of the world. Websites like Eat Feastly and Voulez Vous Diner connect foodies to hosts, who invite them to dine in their homes. Anabella works with a program called "EatWith."

"You get immediate feedback which is part of the experience, people liking the food, commenting on it, wanting to know recipes," Ciliberto said.

Hila Katz is a Community Manager for "Eat With". The site has over 500 hosts in 31 countries around the world. Eat With does takes 15 percent of the sale but deals with reservations. All of the hosts go through an extensive interview process and show their planned meals before being approved. Dinners pay anywhere from $25 to$ 50 a plate. Tonight, it's a "Taste of Venezuela".

"People are interested in having these connected human experiences so we are taking advantage of the digital world to bring people from the platform so sitting around the table," Katz said.

"They have a good description of host and all of the people that have dined with the host you can read reviews so it's very encouraging." Ayelete Firstenberg said as she was trying out the food.

To start, it was areptias, a corn fritter, then black bean soup with avocado cream, a mixed greens salad, and for the main dish, Asado Negro, a braised beef with encrusted with brown sugar crust and fried plantains.

To top it all off, a Passion Fruit Mousse. Anabella hosts once every week. The crowd is mixed...sometimes it's tourists visiting the big city, but most nights it's New Yorkers looking for something different.

"NYers are 70 percent of it, yes, a lot of people I think are interested in how the concept works and trying new food for a very affordable price."

A little toast to Anabella, and a perfect dinner with perfect strangers. Cheers!
