Police: Child Buying Grocer For Mother Beaten, Robbed

Posted: Updated:
UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

A child was beaten and robbed buying groceries for his mother in Upper Darby. Now, police need your help finding the young suspects.

Upper Darby Police really want to find this group of four teenagers. Some of them may be as young as 13-years-old.

It's not how much they stole that has a neighborhood concerned but that their target was an 11-year-old boy.

The pictures of four boys inside the A&F market were taken a day before police say the boys robbed an 11-year-old outside the store last Monday.

We're not showing you their faces because they are juveniles and not charged with a crime, but maybe there's something in the photos you'll recognize.

Giving his account of the robbery to FOX 29, store owner Joe Tavares says an 11-year-old boy had just bought a couple dinner platters for his mother. He spent a total of just $8, but the food never made it home.

Just as he was left, the owner says the four teenagers beat him and left him on the ground on Long Lane, stealing his dinner.

"I feel bad because the customer is a little kid, he's kind of quiet, he's a good boy," Tavares said.

The owner says the boy and his mom are regular customers. He also believes the four teenagers also live in the neighborhood.

"They need help. That's a shame they're doing stuff like that," Tavares said.

Upper Darby residents like Lynissa Coard say they're not shocked but disappointed to see how young the robbery suspects are.

"Kids just doing what they got to do to survive," Coard said. "It's the parents, you know? You are not teaching your kids. There are more kids running around doing whatever they want to do."

Police are hoping the parents or friends of these kids may recognize these kids and turn them in.

If you have information, you are asked to call Upper Darby Police at 610-734-7684.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
