NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Rap lyrics will be the focus of arguments before New Jersey's Supreme Court in the case of a man convicted of attempted murder.

Vonte Skinner's case is to be argued in front of the high court in Trenton on Monday.

Skinner was convicted of shooting a fellow drug dealer in 2005. His conviction was reversed on appeal because prosecutors read rap lyrics to jurors that Skinner had written. The lyrics described shootings, knifings and rapes.

Two of three appellate judges agreed with Skinner's argument that the lyrics had no direct connection to the alleged crimes and shouldn't have been allowed into the trial. Some had been written years earlier.

The dissenting judge wrote that the original trial judge correctly allowed the lyrics because they demonstrated motive and intent.
