CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Shedd Aquarium has added a marlin to its family. But this Marlin walks on all fours and is covered in hair. The two-year-old Labrador mix is one of the Shedd's new rescue dogs.

"Marlin was originally training to be a hunting dog," Shedd Manager of Animal Care and Training Kelly Schaaf told FOX 32 News. "That didn't pan out to well for him."

Marlin found a new home at the Shedd a few months ago. He joins the aquarium's three other rescue dogs, named Bruce, Dory and Coral.

The Shedd hopes seeing furry guys like Marlin will inspire guests to adopt a rescue dog.

All of the dogs are put through at least five training sessions a day at the aquarium's special doggy training lounge.

"This lounge area is where they spend most of their time," Schaaf said.

A dog's life at the Shedd is pretty sweet - chilling in the lounge and starring in one world show, which highlights the connection humans have with the living world.

"Each year, over three million dogs are put to sleep, and about 90 percent of those deaths are due to avoidable behavioral issues," Schaaf told FOX 32. "We hope that in out show that we show out guest that through positive reinforcement training that rescue dogs make amazing pets."

When the weather warms up, Marlin and the other rescue dogs will be out and about greeting guests as they arrive at the Shedd Aquarium.
